Book a one-off lesson or a weekly schedule. Payment is taken securely through Stripe when you book.
Lessons take place online on Google Meet. Your tutor shares the Meet link in your tutrSTEM chat. All you need is a device, a stable internet connection and somewhere quiet.

Trading as tutrSTEM., a sole trader · Last updated: 14 September 2026
By using our website at https://tutrstem.co.uk ("Our Site") or any of the services described in these Terms and Conditions (together, the "Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions in full. If you do not agree to them, you must stop using Our Site and the Services immediately.
Our Site connects students studying towards GCSE and A-Level qualifications ("Students") with tutors who are themselves current A-Level or university students ("Tutors") for the purpose of arranging paid online tutoring sessions ("Tutorials"). Communication between Students and Tutors takes place through the messaging/chat facility on Our Site ("Site Chat"), and Tutorials themselves are conducted using Google Meet, a third-party video-calling service.
Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully. They contain important provisions limiting our liability and describing the basis on which the Services are provided. If any part of these Terms and Conditions is unclear, please contact us using the details in Part 1 below before you register or make a booking.
We are tutrSTEM., a sole trader ("we", "us", "our"), trading from the United Kingdom.
You can contact us by email at support@tutrstem.org.uk. For payments, refunds and billing, email billing@tutrstem.org.uk. For privacy and data questions, email privacy@tutrstem.org.uk. Our website is https://tutrstem.co.uk.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions affects your right to contact us with a question or complaint about the Services.
In these Terms and Conditions, the following words have the following meanings:
"Account" means the registered account through which a user accesses Our Site and the Services.
"Content" means any text, images, video, audio, messages or other material appearing on, submitted to, or transmitted through Our Site, including UGC (defined below).
"Customer", "you" or "your" means a Student, or (if the Student is under 18) the Student's Sponsor, who registers to use the Services.
"Sponsor" means the parent, guardian or other responsible adult who registers on behalf of a Student under the age of 18 and who is responsible for that Student's use of the Services and for payment of Tutor Fees.
"Tutorial" means a pre-arranged, one-to-one or small-group online tutoring session conducted via Google Meet and booked through Our Site.
"Tutor Fees" means the fees payable to a Tutor for a Tutorial, as shown on Our Site at the time of booking.
"Platform Fee" means any additional fee we charge for the use of Our Site and the Services, as shown on Our Site at the time of booking.
"Platform Commission" means the percentage of each Tutorial payment that we keep for providing Our Site and the Services, as described in Part 6.
"UGC" means any content a user uploads, posts or otherwise submits to Our Site, including profile information, messages sent via Site Chat, and feedback or ratings.
"Third-Party Services" means any service not operated by us that the Services rely on or link to, including without limitation Google Meet and Stripe, our secure payment processor.
Our Site is intended for use by residents of the United Kingdom.
If a Student is under 18 years old, a Sponsor must register and hold the Account on that Student's behalf, and remains responsible at all times for the Student's use of Our Site, for approving Tutorials, and for payment of all fees. A Student under 18 may not hold their own Account.
Tutors must be at least 16 years old and must be currently studying A-Levels (or equivalent) or enrolled at a university.
You must provide accurate, current and complete information when registering and must keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login details and for all activity that takes place under your Account. You must tell us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised use of your Account.
We may refuse to register any person, or may suspend or close any Account, at our sole discretion and without giving a reason, in particular where we reasonably suspect the information provided is false or that these Terms and Conditions have been breached.
Please read this Part carefully. It is central to how the Services work.
We operate Our Site as a platform that introduces Students to Tutors. We are not a tutoring agency, an employment business, and we are not the Tutor. Tutors are independent individuals who provide Tutorials on their own account, and not as our employees, workers or agents.
Tutors are current A-Level or university students, not qualified teachers, and are not currently subject to any enhanced background check (such as a DBS check) carried out by us before they are permitted to tutor. We intend to introduce a formal vetting process in due course, but until then no such check is carried out, and any qualifications, experience, or subjects listed on a Tutor's profile are entirely self-declared by the Tutor and are not verified, validated or checked by us in any way.
You are solely responsible for satisfying yourself as to the suitability of a Tutor before booking or continuing with any Tutorial, including by making any enquiries you consider necessary. We strongly encourage Sponsors to be involved in the selection of a Tutor for a Student under 18, and to remain reasonably aware of the arrangement.
To help keep Students safe, the following rules apply at all times and must not be circumvented:
Tutors and Students/Sponsors must communicate only via Site Chat, and Tutorials must take place only via the Google Meet link generated through Our Site. Personal contact details (phone numbers, personal email addresses, social media handles, home addresses) must never be requested, shared or used to communicate outside Our Site.
No in-person meetings should ever be arranged between a Tutor and a Student.
We strongly recommend that a Sponsor or other responsible adult is present in the home, reasonably nearby, and/or periodically checks in during Tutorials involving a Student under 18.
If a Tutor asks a Student for personal contact details, suggests meeting outside Our Site, or behaves in a way that makes you uncomfortable, you must stop the Tutorial and report it to us immediately at support@tutrstem.org.uk.
We may investigate, suspend or terminate any Account and remove any Content at our sole discretion where we consider it necessary for safeguarding reasons, and we may report concerns to the relevant authorities where appropriate. We accept no liability for any delay in doing so.
Nothing in this Part 4, or elsewhere in these Terms and Conditions, creates any obligation on us to vet, supervise, or monitor any Tutorial, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude all liability in connection with the conduct, competence, actions or omissions of any Tutor, whether during a Tutorial or otherwise, save as set out in Part 9.
Tutorials are booked through Our Site. A booking is only confirmed once you receive written confirmation from us or from the relevant Tutor via Our Site.
Site Chat. Site Chat is provided to facilitate arranging Tutorials. We do not actively monitor every message sent via Site Chat, although we reserve the right to review messages where we reasonably suspect misuse, a breach of these Terms and Conditions, or a safeguarding concern, and to remove any Content at our discretion.
Google Meet. Tutorials take place using Google Meet, a Third-Party Service operated by Google and not by us. Your use of Google Meet is subject to Google's own terms of service and privacy policy, which you should check independently. We do not control, and accept no responsibility or liability for, the availability, performance, security, or functioning of Google Meet, including any outage, bug, data loss, or connection failure, or for any content or conduct that Google Meet enables or fails to prevent (such as unauthorised recording by another participant).
You are responsible for having a suitable device, a stable internet connection, and any accounts or software needed to access Site Chat and Google Meet. We accept no liability for any Tutorial that is disrupted, shortened, or cannot take place because of a problem with your equipment, software, or internet connection.
We do not record Tutorials or store any recording of them. Any recording is a matter between the Tutor and Student/Sponsor and any applicable law, and we accept no responsibility for it.
Tutor Fees and any Platform Fee are shown on Our Site before you confirm a booking. Payment is taken through Our Site's payment system at the time of booking (or as otherwise stated on Our Site), using Stripe, our secure third-party payment processor.
All fees are quoted in pounds sterling. We reserve the right to change fees at any time; changes will not affect a booking you have already paid for.
Platform Commission. We keep a percentage of each Tutorial payment as our Platform Commission and pay the remainder to the Tutor. The Platform Commission is calculated on the amount we receive after payment processing fees (such as Stripe's fees) have been deducted. The current Platform Commission is 20%. This percentage is not fixed: it is subject to change and may increase in the future.
We may change the Platform Commission percentage, including increasing it, as well as how it is calculated, and any other fees or charges from time to time, for example to reflect our costs or changes to the Services. We will give Tutors reasonable notice of any change by email or on Our Site before it takes effect. A change will not apply to Tutorials that have already been paid for. If a Tutor does not agree to a change, they may stop offering Tutorials through Our Site; continuing to offer Tutorials after the change takes effect means the Tutor accepts the new Platform Commission.
Cancellations by you. If you cancel or need to reschedule a Tutorial:
giving more than 24 hours' notice before the scheduled start time, you may reschedule (subject to the Tutor's availability) or receive a full refund of the Tutor Fee;
giving 24 hours' notice or less, or if the Student fails to attend without notice, no refund will be given.
Cancellations by the Tutor. If a Tutor cancels a Tutorial, you will be offered a rescheduled Tutorial or a full refund of the Tutor Fee, at your choice.
Refund requests should be sent to billing@tutrstem.org.uk. Refunds are made to the original payment method and may take a number of days to reach you, depending on your bank or card provider.
You acknowledge that, because the Services are provided on demand and tailored to your booking, the standard 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 may not apply once a Tutorial has been booked and confirmed; this does not affect your other statutory rights, including those summarised in Part 12.
Any dispute about a Tutor Fee should first be raised with us at billing@tutrstem.org.uk; we will try to help resolve it between you and the Tutor, but we are not obliged to and are not a party to that payment dispute (see Part 4.1).
You must use Our Site and the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. In particular, you must not:
behave abusively, threateningly, or in a discriminatory or harassing way towards any Tutor, Student, Sponsor or member of our team;
post or transmit any content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable;
share, or ask another user to share, personal contact details or attempt to communicate or transact outside Our Site (see Part 4.4);
attempt to gain unauthorised access to Our Site, another user's Account, or any system connected to Our Site;
introduce any virus, malware or other harmful code, or attempt a denial-of-service attack against Our Site;
use Our Site for any purpose other than arranging and receiving genuine tutoring services.
If you breach this Part 7, we may suspend or terminate your Account immediately, remove any relevant Content, and/or take any other action we reasonably consider appropriate, without any liability to you.
All Content on Our Site (excluding UGC) — including text, design, logos and software — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may view and print pages from Our Site for your own personal, non-commercial use only.
By submitting UGC (including messages, profile information, and feedback) you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, store, reproduce and display that UGC solely for the purposes of operating and improving the Services (for example, showing feedback on a Tutor's profile). You remain responsible for anything you submit and confirm that it does not infringe any third party's rights.
Promotion of Tutors. If you are a Tutor, you agree that, in addition to the licence above, we may use your public profile information — including your name (or first name), profile photo, subjects, levels, grades, university, bio, rates and reviews — to promote you, tutrSTEM and the Services. This includes featuring or posting your profile on Our Site, on social media (such as Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn), in emails and newsletters, and in other advertising or promotional material. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to do this for as long as you are a Tutor on Our Site. We will never use your private information, such as your contact details, date of birth, identity documents or DBS details, for promotion. If you would like us to stop featuring you in new promotional material, email support@tutrstem.org.uk; we will stop as soon as reasonably possible, but we may not be able to remove posts or material already published or shared.
Any teaching materials a Tutor prepares themselves remain that Tutor's property, and are shared with a Student solely for that Student's personal study use.
Please read this Part carefully — it sets out important limits on our responsibility to you.
Our Site and the Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that Our Site will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free at all times, and we may suspend or withdraw all or part of the Services at any time.
We are a platform, not a tutor. We do not deliver, supervise or guarantee the quality, accuracy, or outcome of any Tutorial. We give no warranty as to any Tutor's competence, qualifications, conduct, punctuality, or the academic results a Student may or may not achieve. Any advice, teaching, or information given by a Tutor is given by that Tutor personally, and not by us or on our behalf.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all conditions, warranties, representations and other terms which might otherwise apply to Our Site or the Services, whether express or implied.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under English law (including certain rights you have as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015).
Subject always to clause 9.4, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
we exclude all liability for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with the conduct, actions, omissions, advice, or content of any Tutor, or any interaction between users, whether occurring on Our Site, via Site Chat, or during a Tutorial on Google Meet;
we exclude all liability for any loss or damage arising from Third-Party Services (including Google Meet and Stripe, our secure payment processor), or from your equipment, software, or internet connection;
we exclude all liability for loss of profit, business, opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings, or for any indirect or consequential loss, however arising; and
our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions and your use of the Services, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim.
If you are a consumer, this Part 9 does not affect your statutory rights (see Part 12), and we only supply the Services for domestic and private use. You agree not to use the Services for any commercial purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against any claims, losses, damages, costs or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with: your breach of these Terms and Conditions; any UGC you submit; or your, or (in the case of a Sponsor) a Student's, misuse of Our Site or the Services. This does not apply to the extent a claim arises from our own negligence, fraud, or breach of a right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
You may close your Account at any time by contacting us. This will not affect any Tutorial already booked and paid for, which will be dealt with in line with Part 6.
We may suspend or terminate your Account immediately, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms and Conditions (including Parts 4 or 7), provided false information, or acted in a way that could put a Student's safety, or our reputation, at risk.
We may change these Terms and Conditions at any time. The version in force at the time you use Our Site or make a booking applies to that use. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can (for example, by email or a notice on Our Site).
We may also change or discontinue Our Site or any part of the Services at any time.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions affects your statutory rights as a consumer. In summary, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides that a service must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time if no time was agreed, and for a reasonable price if none was agreed. Further information about your rights is available from Citizens Advice at www.citizensadvice.org.uk or by calling 0800 144 8848.
We will only use your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy, available at https://tutrstem.co.uk/#privacy. By using Our Site, you confirm that you have read and understood it.
No partnership. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions creates a partnership, agency, or employment relationship between you, us, and/or any Tutor.
Severability. If any part of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest will remain in full force and effect.
Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms and Conditions without our written consent. We may transfer ours at any time.
Entire agreement. These Terms and Conditions, together with our Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and us relating to your use of Our Site and the Services.
Third-party rights. No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these Terms and Conditions.
Governing law and jurisdiction. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the part of the UK in which you live; otherwise, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
These Terms and Conditions were prepared as a starting template and have not been reviewed by a solicitor. Given that the Services involve under-18 users, we recommend having them checked by a solicitor with safeguarding and consumer-contract experience before publishing them live, and putting a separate Safeguarding Policy and Privacy Policy in place alongside them.
Privacy Policy
How tutrSTEM. stores parent, student, tutor, booking, message, and payment-related data.
Last updated: 14 September 2026
tutrSTEM ("tutrSTEM", "we", "us" or "our") operates the website https://tutrstem.co.uk (the "Site") and the tutoring services offered through it (the "Services"). tutrSTEM is currently operated as a sole trader business, and for the purposes of UK data protection law is the "data controller" of the personal information described in this policy.
This policy explains what personal information we collect from users of the Site — whether you are a parent, a pupil/student, or a tutor — how and why we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over it. It should be read alongside our Terms of Service and Cookie Policy (see Section 8 below).
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, let you know directly.
1. Who this policy applies to
References in this policy to "you" mean any user of the Site, including:
Clients — parents, guardians or students who book tutoring through tutrSTEM; and
Tutors — individuals who apply to, and are accepted to, offer tutoring services through tutrSTEM.
tutrSTEM operates as a marketplace: we connect independent tutors with students and parents, and facilitate bookings, communication and payment between them through the Site.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us directly
To create an account and use the Services, we ask you to provide certain personal information. Depending on whether you are a parent, student or tutor, this may include:
Account information: your name, email address, phone number, and (for students) age range or year group, so we can set up and manage your account.
Tutor application details: if you apply to tutor with us, your subjects and levels taught, educational background and qualifications, a profile photo, a short bio or introduction video, your hourly rate, and your availability.
Communications: messages you send to other users through the Site, enquiries and requests you make, and your correspondence with tutrSTEM support.
Booking information: details of lessons booked or requested, including subject, level, scheduling, and status (e.g. confirmed, completed, cancelled).
Referral and promotional information: details of any referral codes or promotional offers you share or redeem.
We do not currently carry out DBS (criminal record) checks, record tutoring sessions, or run a schools referral programme. If this changes, we will update this policy and tell you before doing so.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
When you use the Site, we automatically collect some technical information, including your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you visit, how you got to the Site, and the date, time and duration of your visit. This helps us keep the Site secure, understand how it is used, and improve it. See our Cookie Policy (Section 8) for details of the specific technologies we use to collect this information.
2.3 Information we receive from other sources
Reviews: if a client leaves a review of a tutor after a lesson, that review (and the fact that it came from a specific booking) is shared with the tutor and may be displayed publicly on the tutor's profile.
Other sources: where permitted by law, we may receive information about you from other users of the Site (for example, if someone reports a concern about your account) or from third parties such as fraud prevention services.
2.4 Financial information
To process payments, tutors provide us with bank account details for payouts, and clients provide payment card details, which are processed by Stripe, our secure third-party payment provider (see Section 6). We do not store full card numbers ourselves. We keep records of invoices, payments made and received, and payment history for accounting and tax purposes.
3. How we use your information
We use your personal information for the following purposes.
To provide the Services (performance of our contract with you):
creating and administering your account;
enabling tutors to build and publish a profile, and enabling clients to search for and book tutors;
facilitating communication and bookings between clients and tutors;
processing payments to and from you;
providing customer support; and
sending essential service communications (e.g. booking confirmations, account notices).
For our legitimate business interests:
keeping the Site secure and preventing fraud, spam or abuse;
understanding how the Site is used so we can maintain and improve it;
enforcing our Terms of Service; and
meeting our safeguarding responsibilities where we become aware of a concern about a user's safety or conduct.
With your consent:
sending you marketing communications about tutrSTEM's own services (see Section 4); and
any other purpose for which we specifically ask your permission.
To comply with the law:
meeting our tax, accounting and other legal or regulatory obligations.
4. Marketing communications
We may send you email updates about tutrSTEM's own services, such as new features, tips for getting the most from tutoring, or occasional offers. You can opt out of these at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in every marketing email, or by emailing privacy@tutrstem.org.uk with "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject line. Opting out of marketing does not affect essential service emails (such as booking confirmations), which we need to send you to provide the Services.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not currently share your details with third parties for their direct marketing.
5. Legal bases for processing
Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
Contract — processing necessary to provide the Services you have signed up for, such as managing bookings and payments.
Legitimate interests — processing necessary for our legitimate business interests (such as keeping the Site secure, preventing misuse, and improving our Services), provided this is not overridden by your own rights and interests.
Consent — where we ask for your specific permission, such as for marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Legal obligation — where we need to process information to comply with the law, such as keeping financial records for tax purposes.
6. Who we share your information with
Other users of the Site. If you book a tutor, the tutor receives the information needed to deliver the lesson (such as your first name, the subject/level requested, and your messages). If you are a tutor, the profile information you provide (name, subjects, qualifications, photo, rate, reviews) is visible to prospective clients browsing the Site.
Service providers. We use a small number of third-party providers to help us run tutrSTEM, including:
Stripe, our secure payment processor, to handle card payments and payouts;
email and messaging tools, to enable communications and notifications; and
website hosting and basic analytics tools, to run and understand use of the Site.
We only share the information these providers need to perform their function, and we require them to keep it secure and use it only for the purposes we specify.
Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose personal information where we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to respond to a valid legal request, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the safety, rights or property of tutrSTEM, our users, or others.
Business transfers. If tutrSTEM's business, or part of it, is sold or transferred, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the same protections described in this policy.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside the UK (for example, a payment or email provider based in the US or EU). Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your information remains protected to a standard consistent with UK data protection law — for example, by using providers that participate in an approved data protection framework, or by relying on standard contractual clauses approved for use under UK law. You can contact us for more information about the safeguards in place for any particular transfer.
8. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies on the Site. Strictly necessary cookies keep the Site working (for example, keeping you logged in); with your consent, we may also use analytics cookies to help us understand how the Site is used, so we can improve it. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time — see your browser's help pages for instructions (Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all publish these). Blocking non-essential cookies will not stop you using the core features of the Site, but some strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled without affecting how the Site works.
9. How we protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information, including using encrypted (HTTPS) connections between your browser and our Site, and limiting access to personal information to what is needed to run tutrSTEM. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security — for example, we are not responsible for the security of information you choose to send us by unencrypted email.
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you wish to reactivate it or raise a query about past bookings. We will delete or anonymise your personal information when it is no longer needed for these purposes, unless we are required to keep it for longer to meet a legal, tax or accounting obligation, or to resolve a dispute. Where possible, information you have shared with other users (such as a review) may remain visible after your account is deleted, but will no longer be linked to identifying details about you.
tutrSTEM's Services are intended to support the tutoring of school-age students. Where a student is under 18, we expect a parent or guardian to set up and manage the account, book lessons, and agree to our Terms of Service on the student's behalf. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information other than as described above, please contact us at privacy@tutrstem.org.uk and we will address this.
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
access the personal information we hold about you;
ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances;
ask us to restrict how we use your information, or object to processing based on our legitimate interests or for direct marketing;
ask us to provide your information in a portable, machine-readable format, where we process it by automated means with your consent or to perform a contract; and
withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on your consent to process your information.
To exercise any of these rights, please email privacy@tutrstem.org.uk. We will respond within one month. We may need to verify your identity before actioning your request, and in some cases the law allows us to decline a request — if so, we will explain why.
We hope we can resolve any concern you have about how we handle your personal information — please contact us first at privacy@tutrstem.org.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your personal information, please contact us at:
